India's strongest playing XI for the 1st Test vs Sri Lanka

India are set to begin their two-match Test series against Sri Lanka on August 15 at the Galle International Stadium, with valuable ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 points at stake. Before the series gets underway, the visitors will play a four-day practice match in Colombo starting on August 7 to acclimatise to the conditions.

The series is an important one for India, who currently occupy fifth place in the WTC standings with 52 points and a 48.15 points percentage after nine Tests. A successful tour of Sri Lanka could significantly improve their position in the standings and strengthen their hopes of reaching another WTC final. At No. 3, Devdutt Padikkal could be the ideal choice. While Sai Sudharsan handled the role previously, Padikkal's impressive domestic performances and his ability to play spin with confidence make him a strong contender for the position. His calm temperament and sound technique could prove invaluable on turning Sri Lankan tracks.
