The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) finally ended their 18-year title drought by clinching their maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) trophy, defeating Punjab Kings (PBKS) by six runs in a thrilling IPL 2025 Final at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
The emotional highlight of the night came when RCB icon Virat Kohli was seen in tears after the win. He rushed towards his wife and actor Anushka Sharma, embracing her in a lovely moment. Anushka, who has been a constant supporter since IPL 2014, stood by Kohli through all the highs and lows, making the moment special.
RCB posted a total of 190 runs in the first innings, with Kohli contributing a valuable 43 runs. PBKS bowlers Arshdeep Singh and Kyle Jamieson impressed with three wickets each. In response, PBKS fought hard but fell just six runs short, despite a 61-run knock off 30 balls from Shashank Singh.
RCB’s bowlers held their nerves under pressure. Krunal Pandya and Bhuvneshwar Kumar delivered crucial spells, ensuring their team stayed ahead in the final moments.
Kohli was in sublime form throughout the tournament, scoring 657 runs in 15 matches at an average of 54.75, including eight half-centuries, all of which gave RCB victories. His consistency and leadership qualities proved vital for the Bengaluru-based franchise.
RCB had finished second on the IPL 2025 points table with 19 points, securing a place in Qualifier 1 against PBKS in Mullanpur. They dominated the game with an outstanding bowling display and secured a direct spot in the final. PBKS, however, bounced back by defeating the five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) in Qualifier 2 and entered the finals.
Under the leadership of Rajat Patidar, RCB managed to do what they had fallen short of in previous seasons, and lift the trophy. The triumph marks a historic moment in the franchise’s journey.
