Royal Challengers Bengaluru are up for a massive 228-run target set by Lucknow Super Giants at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium in Lucknow in Match No. 70 of IPL 2025 to clinch a spot in Qualifier 1.
Despite losing the toss and being asked to bat first, LSG’s innings was dominated brilliantly by captain Rishabh Pant. Having struggled with a frustrating season with the bat, Pant finally found his rhythm in the final league of the competition, smashing an unbeaten 118 off just 54 deliveries. Walking in at No. 3 after Matthew Breetzke was cleaned up early by Nuwan Thushara, Pant went all over the RCB bowlers.
The southpaw began his heroics by hitting 18 runs off a single Yash Dayal over. His innings featured 10 boundaries and six mammoth sixes that landed into the stands at the majestic Ekana. He brought up his century in just 54 balls and celebrated his century with a boundary over extra cover, following it up with an antique cartwheel celebration.
Pant, along with Mitchell Marsh, stitched a massive 152-run stand for the second wicket, which culminated his dream season with another fifty, his sixth and last of the campaign. Despite Bhuvneshwar Kumar managing to break the partnership in the 16th over, the side was already in a good position. Lucknow finished on 227/3 in their allotted 20 overs. For RCB, Thushara, Kumar and Romario Shepherd all picked a wicket each.
"It's a great privilege to make my debut. The head seems fine, but we'll see [for] the next couple of hours. It felt like a really good wicket. Thushara was all over me and Mitch there. Any debut made, there's nerves. To get a game, I was really excited to be honest. Pant has been unreal, to be honest. His captaincy has been brilliant. The boys love him," Matthew Breetzke - who debuted and opened for LSG tonight, said after the innings on air.
