Chennai Super Kings (CSK) won their final IPL 2025 match by 83 runs against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
CSK skipper MS Dhoni won the toss and elected to bat first before opener Ayush Mhatre went berserk against the GT left-arm pacer Arshad Khan as he scored 28 runs to set the tone of the match. Mhatre scored 34 off 17 balls and fell to Prasidh Krishna before Urvil Patel did his part with 37 off 19.
CSK opener Devon Conway scored a calm half-century (52 off 35) but it was Proteas batter Dewald Brevis who stole the show with his 57 off just 23. For GT, Prasidh Krishna took two wickets and gave just 22 runs in his four-over spell.
Chasing 231, GT top-order went cheaply as skipper Shubman Gill (14), Jos Buttler (5), and Sherfane Rutherford (0) departed early. GT opener Sai Sudharsan (41 off 28) tried to pull things back, but CSK bowlers picked up wickets at regular intervals. Noor Ahmad and Anshul Kamboj picked three wickets each, while Ravindra Jadeja picked two.
In the end, CSK won the fourth match of the tournament and ended their campaign on a positive note. GT remains at the top of the IPL 2025 points table with a dip in their net run rate.
CSK got off to a flying start with the help of 17-year-old Ayush Mhatre, who smashed 28 runs in the second over of the powerplay bowled by Arshad Khan. Mhatre scored a quick 34 off just 17 deliveries before being dismissed. After his departure, Urvil Patel kept the momentum going with an aggressive knock by scoring 37 off 19.
South African batter Dewald Brevis walked in after the dismissal of Shivam Dube and immediately took charge. He lit up the Ahmedabad stadium with a terrific innings while scoring 57 off just 23 which included five sixes and helping CSK post a formidable total.
During GT’s chase, lower-order batter Arshad Khan showcased his batting talent after the fall of the seventh wicket. The left-hander went on the offensive against Matheesha Pathirana by smashing two consecutive sixes and briefly reviving GT’s hopes with his late cameo.
