Royal Challengers Bengaluru secured a historic win at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad against Punjab Kings by six runs to clinch their maiden IPL title after 18 seasons.
Opting to bowl first, PBKS dismissed Phil Salt (16 off nine) early while Mayank Agarwal (24 off 18) departed just after the powerplay. Virat Kohli's 43 off 35 knock came to an end in the 15th over before some blitzes from Liam Livingstone (25 off 15), Jitesh Sharma (24 off 10), and Romario Shepherd (17 off nine) took RCB to 190/9. As far as PBKS' bowlers are concerned, Arshdeep Singh (3/40 in four overs) and Kyle Jamieson (3/48 in four overs) shared six wickets between them.
As for the run-chase, PBKS got to 52/1 at the end of the first six overs. By the end of the 10th over, Prabhsimran Singh (26 off 22) and Shreyas Iyer (one off two) were back in the pavilion. Shashank Singh's unbeaten 61-run knock proved to fall just short, with no one around him contributing substantially. Krunal Pandya shone with a miserly 2/17 off four overs.
