IPL 2025: Marcus Stoinis, Josh Inglis may not return for remainder of season

It is understood that Marcus Stoinis and Josh Inglis may not make their way back to India for the remainder of the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League for Punjab Kings. Head coach, Ricky Ponting, is being reported to be trying his best to persuade the Australian duo. Ponting was amongst the three Australian support staff members of PBKS who stayed back in India after the IPL was temporarily paused.
PBKS have requested their players to assemble in the next couple of days. The side will resume training on Thursday, May 15, at their new home ground, the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. The HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala was not picked by the Board of Control for Cricket in India as their shortlisted venues post the resumption of the IPL after it was kept on hold due to cross-border tensions.

Notably, Inglis was named in Australia's 15-member squad for the final of the 2023-25 cycle of the World Test Championship against South Africa from June 11. Another of PBKS' players, Marco Jansen, was named in the Proteas' unit. So far, only three overseas players in the form of Xavier Bartlett, Azmatullah Omarzai, and Mitchell Owen have confirmed to the PBKS management with regard to their travel schedules to India.
PBKS currently sit third on the points table with 15 points from 11 games. Their 12th league phase fixture, held in Dharamsala on May 8 against Delhi Capitals, had to be abandoned halfway through the first innings due to heated cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan. The IPL was subsequently suspended on May 9 for a week's time by the BCCI. However, the announcement of a ceasefire between the two nations on May 10 evening meant that the tournament was declared to resume on Saturday, May 17.
