Delhi Capitals (DC) ended their IPL 2025 season with a solid six-wicket win over Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Match 66 at Jaipur's Sawai Mansingh Stadium on May 24. Chasing 207, DC came out victorious thanks to 21-year-old Sameer Rizvi's unbeaten 58 off 25 balls as they registered only their third successful 200-plus run chase in IPL history.
Punjab Kings, who needed a win to strengthen their hold on a top-two finish, posted 206/8 after being put into bat as Shreyas Iyer top-scored with 53 while Marcus Stoinis smashed 44 off just 16 balls. Mustafizur Rahman (3/33) was the pick of the bowlers for DC.
The Capitals started their chase strongly, with KL Rahul and Faf du Plessis reaching the 50-run mark inside five overs. After the wickets of both openers, Karun Nair (44) and Rizvi stitched a crucial partnership, adding 53 runs in just 24 balls. Nair's dismissal by Harpreet Brar in the 16th over brought PBKS back in the game, but Tristan Stubbs supported Rizvi well in the end.
With 22 needed off 12 balls, Rizvi took on Arshdeep Singh with a six to bring up his maiden IPL fifty off just 22 deliveries. He followed it up with a match-winning six off Stoinis to seal the game with three balls to spare. With this win, Delhi Capitals finish fifth with 15 points, ending a four-match losing streak. Meanwhile, PBKS remain second but now face the challenge of slipping to third if results go against them.
Young Sameer Rizvi, who was playing his fifth game of the season, made sure that Delhi Capitals ended their campaign on a high. The right-handed batter's unbeaten 58, laced with three boundaries and five sixes, helped the Capitals win the game with six wickets and three balls to spare. His 62-run stand with Karun Nair put the team in a comfortable position in the chase. In the end, he accelerated their innings along with Tristan Stubbs to take the team over the line.
DC pacer Mustafizur Rahman's three-wicket haul put constant pressure on PBKS batters. The left-armer dismissed Priyansh Arya, Shashank Singh, and Marco Jansen, and ended with figures of 3/33 in his quota of four overs. He first got rid of young opener Priyansh, who gave a catch to Stubbs behind the stumps. Later, Shashank got a faint edge while going for a drive, which went straight to the keeper. Meanwhile, Jansen was beaten by a good bouncer and walked back after a two-ball duck.
Skipper Shreyas Iyer and all-rounder Marcus Stoinis had a big role to play in Punjab Kings' posting 208/4 in their 20 overs. Shreyas, who walked in at No.4, witnessed a mini-collapse around him and tried to stabilise the innings. After stitching a 41-run stand with Nehal Wadhera, Iyer was dismissed for a 34-ball 53. After his dismissal, Stoinis' late flourish (16-ball 44) gave the necessary push to Punjab. The Aussie laced his innings with three boundaries and four sixes.
