IPL 2025: Sai Sudharsan shares about his approach in Powerplay overs

Gujarat Titans opener Sai Sudharsan opened up on his mindset during the Powerplay overs in IPL 2025. Being the leading run scorer of the 18th edition of the league after Match 63, the southpaw shared in an interview that he regards the Powerplay as the most important phase of the game due to the field restrictions.
The southpaw claimed that there is a need to make the most of the field restrictions as a batter. However, he felt there is also a need for the batters to analyze the nature of the surfaces and assess the par score if they were to bat first. The GT batter felt that not all wickets are flat in the ongoing season and added that the batters have to adapt to different surfaces.
"As everybody knows, the Powerplay is the most important six overs of the game, where you maximize and get the most out of it. But I feel at the same time, trying to understand how the wicket behaves, what can be the potential target if you're batting first, is important, as not everywhere is the wicket flat this season," said Sai Sudharsan while speaking with Star Sports.
Shubman Gill vs Sai Sudharsan- potential comparison in IPL
Sudharsan added that his focus is to achieve the best possible score as per the nature of the surface. The Titans' opener said that his and Shubman Gill's focus is to go for runs and not to have a certain target in mind.
"At the same time, my focus is to try to know what the best score is on a given surface and try to achieve it. Shubman and I don't have a certain target in mind to achieve in the first six overs of the innings. If we feel the wicket is good, we go for it," Sudharsan added.
Both Gill and Sudharsan have batted well this season, with both being in the list of top run-getters. While Sai has 617 runs in 12 innings at an average of 56.09, his skipper has 601 runs in as many innings at an average of 60.10. Both are one-two in the Orange Cap list.
