IPL 2025: Sherfane Rutherford collides with Will O'Rourke in GT-LSG tie

Gujarat Titans (GT) suffered a 33-run defeat in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 clash against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Thursday, May 22.
Chasing a 236-run target, Gujarat lost their famed troika of Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan, and Jos Buttler by the 10th over. The onus was on Sherfane Rutherford and Shahrukh Khan to take Gujarat to what would have been a spectacular win. They forged an 86-run stand off 40 balls to give Lucknow a scare but it was not enough in the end. Meanwhile, the partnership could have been broken much sooner had Abdul Samad scored a direct hit in the 11th over of the chase.
Rutherford, batting on six off five at that time, hit a William O'Rourke delivery straight to Samad at mid-off. The Caribbean batter scampered towards the non-striker's end but O'Rourke saw him charging in the same path. The pacer tried to sway away to give Rutherford some space, however, the batter bumped right into the bowler as both of them fell to the ground. Rutherford would have been run out by miles had Samad hit the stumps, although he failed to.
Rutherford was eventually dismissed by O'Rourke in the 17th over after he had scored 38 off 22 balls. Shahrukh continued the fight but kept losing wickets at the other end. Eventually, he was dismissed for a 29-ball 57. O'Rourke was the pick of the bowlers as he finished with figures of 3/27 in four overs.
