The home team Gujarat Titans (GT) faced Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on May 22. In an unfortunate moment during the match, left-arm pacer Akash Singh was injured while bowling the final over of the powerplay.
He was bowling around the wicket to GT skipper Shubman Gill, and delivered a ball that was driven straight down the ground. In an attempt to stop the ball it deflected off his right hand. The impact looked like something came off his hand, and it immediately started to bleed. Although it was not his bowling hand, the injury seemed serious. His hand was quickly wrapped in a large towel, and had to walk off the field. Avesh Khan was brought in to complete the remainder of the over.
Earlier, in the first innings, LSG posted a massive total of 235 runs in their 20 overs. Mitchell Marsh was the star of the innings, who scored a brilliant 117 off 64 balls, including ten fours and eight sixes. He was well-supported by Nicholas Pooran, who added 56 runs off just 27 deliveries by smashing four fours and five sixes. GT bowlers Arshad Khan and Sai Kishore managed to pick up only one wicket each.
Speaking of their IPL 2025 journey, GT have already secured a spot in the playoffs and currently sit at the top of the points table with 18 points. They will look to win the match against LSG in front of their home crowd to further strengthen their position and gain an advantage in the playoffs stage.
Meanwhile, LSG have already been eliminated from the tournament, and this clash gave them a great opportunity to finish their campaign on a positive and high note.
