IPL 2025: What is Cut-Off time for PBKS vs MI Qualifier 2 if rain delays play?

Published - 01 Jun 2025, 20:37 IST | Updated - 01 Jun 2025, 20:50 IST
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 Qualifier 2 clash between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Mumbai Indians (MI) has been delayed due to rain at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The toss was held at regular time (7 PM IST). Shreyas Iyer won the toss and had no hesitation in opting to bowl first, citing the overcast conditions and the surface also being under the covers on match eve.
However, just before the players were making their way to the ground for the action to commence, rain made an appearance. However, the drizzle passed away in about five minutes. Players again began their preparations before taking the field, but rain came about once again, and this time, it wasn't a drizzle. It was pelting down as fans had to find themselves some cover. Ground staff too sprang into action once again to cover the surface swiftly.
For the unversed, this game will only lose overs after 120 minutes have been taken out by the rain and subsequent clean-up. So, a 20-over contest can start latest at 9:30 PM. After the clock passes the said time, over will be lost up until 11:56 PM, which is the latest for a five-overs-a-side contest. Thus, in case, there is no start of play by 11:56, the game will be called off without a result.
IPL 2025: Who will play final if Qualifier 2 is washed out?
Around 30 minutes after the initial start time, cricket enthusiasts received some positive news as the match was scheduled to start at 8:25 PM. However, this update had to be scratched as rain came back once again. It has been a frustrating waiting game for fans as they hope to see two brilliant teams fighting it out for a chance to meet Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the summit clash on Tuesday, June 3.
Meanwhile, in the team news, Yuzvendra Chahal is finally back in PBKS' playing XI for the big game. He has played 12 matches so far and picked up 14 wickets at an average of 25.29. On the other hand, Vijaykumar Vyshak has also been named in the side, with Harpreet Brar missing out. Prabhsimran Singh is among the Impact Players and is expected to come in to bat in the second innings. MI, on the other hand, have replaced Richard Gleeson with Reece Topley.
