IPL 2026: Aakash Chopra slams David Miller for turning down crucial single in the final over against Gujarat Titans

In one of the most gripping finishes of IPL 2026, former India cricketer Aakash Chopra has sharply criticised David Miller for a decisive call during Delhi Capitals’ (DC) narrow one-run defeat to Gujarat Titans (GT). Chopra pointed to Miller’s refusal to take a single on the penultimate ball of the final over—despite a chance to level the scores—as a moment that ultimately cost DC the match.
The high-scoring contest at the Arun Jaitley Stadium saw Gujarat Titans post a daunting total of 210+, setting up a challenging chase for DC. In response, Delhi fought valiantly, finishing at 209/8—just one run short in what turned out to be a dramatic last-over finish.
With two runs needed off the final two deliveries, the game hung in the balance. Miller, one of DC’s most experienced finishers, was on strike with Kuldeep Yadav at the non-striker’s end. A single was available on the fifth ball, which would have tied the match and handed Kuldeep the strike for the final delivery. However, Miller chose to stay on strike, a decision that drew widespread attention.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Chopra expressed confusion over Miller’s contrasting decisions in the closing stages. He highlighted how Miller had earlier allowed Vipraj Nigam to take a single on the final ball of the 19th over, thereby keeping the strike away from himself at the start of the last over.
“When two runs were required off two balls and a single was available to David Miller, he refused, and I am thinking you refused it now, but you allowed Vipraj to take a single off the last ball of the previous over. When two runs were required off the last ball, you missed, and Buttler made a direct hit from behind, and here you go, the Gujarat Titans got their first win,” said Chopra.
Chopra further pointed out that while the bowling in the final over from Prasidh Krishna had its moments of vulnerability—including a boundary and a towering six—the pacer held his nerve in the final two deliveries to seal the game for GT.

The match reached its climax on the final ball, with DC still needing two runs. Miller attempted to finish the game himself but failed to connect. In the chaos that followed, Kuldeep attempted a desperate bye but was run out by a sharp piece of work from Jos Buttler behind the stumps. That moment sealed Gujarat Titans’ thrilling one-run victory and left Delhi Capitals ruing what could have been.
