Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are one of the most successful franchises in the Indian Premier League (IPL), having won the prestigious trophy five times. However, IPL 2025 proved to be a disappointing campaign for the yellow brigade, as they finished at the bottom of the points table. Despite assembling a mix of experienced campaigners and promising youngsters, the team struggled to find form.\
One of the key underperformers was Rahul Tripathi, whose poor displays in the middle overs cost CSK crucial matches. Ahead of IPL 2026, the franchise might consider releasing Tripathi and exploring new options in the auction to strengthen their squad. Here are three players CSK could target.
The wicketkeeper-batter Narayan Jagadeesan could be a viable replacement for Tripathi. Jagadeesan has been part of the CSK setup in previous IPL seasons but did not get enough opportunities to establish himself. However, he is now back in form, and is also with the Indian team as the backup wicketkeeper in Tests, as Rishabh Pant remains on the sidelines due to his injury.
Jagadeesan, a big name in the Indian domestic circuit, is known for his consistent performances in domestic cricket and tournaments like the Tamil Nadu Premier League highlight his potential. He can provide stability in the middle order and offer flexibility in team combinations, making him a useful addition to the squad.
