In a clinical run-chase at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Gujarat Titans outclassed Chennai Super Kings to chase down 159 with ease in Match 37 of the Indian Premier League 2026.
After losing the toss, CSK were asked to bat first, but his side never really got going. Apart from their captain, the hosts' batting lineup struggled to build momentum as wickets kept falling at regular intervals.
It was Gaikwad who held one end firm with a composed unbeaten 74 off 60 balls, anchoring the innings. However, he found little support from the other end. Shivam Dube chipped in with 22, while a late cameo from Jamie Overton (18 off 6) helped CSK reach 158/7 in their 20 overs.
For GT, it was a disciplined bowling effort led by Kagiso Rabada, who picked up three crucial wickets. Arshad Khan supported well with two scalps, while Mohammed Siraj and Manav Suthar chipped in with one wicket each. After a steady start, it was Sai Sudharsan who took complete control of the chase. The elegant left-hander played a sensational knock, smashing 87 off just 46 balls and taking the game away from the Super Kings.
Skipper Shubman Gill provided solid support with 33, while Jos Buttler remained unbeaten on 39 to finish things off comfortably. GT chased down the target in just 16.4 overs, sealing a dominant 8-wicket victory and showcasing their batting depth and composure under pressure. The 2022 champions have now moved to fifth spot on the points table, having completed their fourth win of the season in Chennai.
It was a brilliant display of fast bowling by the experienced duo of Mohammed Siraj and Kagiso Rabada in the powerplay during CSK’s batting. The pitch assisted the pacers and had a true bounce in it, and the two exploited the conditions to the full extent. The CSK batters could only score 28 runs in the first six overs, while losing three wickets.

It was a knock full of struggles for the CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad on a tough Chepauk wicket. Despite losing the wickets at the other end, Gaikwad kept on going, initially struggling to time the ball well. But, he made sure the scoreboard keeps on moving. He ended up scoring 74* in 60 balls. It was also his slowest fifty ever in IPL.

The GT opener Sai Sudharsan continued his fine form with the bat after scoring a century against RCB earlier in the tournament. Chasing a target of 159 on a tricky Chepauk wicket, patience and gritty batting were needed, and that is exactly what the local cricketer did. It was an important knock for the visiting side on Sunday.
