Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) got the better of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Monday, May 18.
The hosts won the toss and opted to bat first. Sanju Samson got off to a flying start, even when his opening partner was struggling at the other end. Samson's quickfire knock ended in the third over after he made 27 off 13 balls. Urvil Patel faced just eight balls, hit two sixes, and got dismissed. Kartik Sharma played well for his 19-ball 32, but CSK would have wanted him to bat a little longer.
Ruturaj was eventually dismissed in the 12th over after scoring just 15 off 21 balls. Dewald Brevis, on the other hand, scored 44 off 27 deliveries. Shivam Dube contributed 26 runs but he wasn't at his fluent best on a sluggish track. In the end, CSK finished on 180/7, with Pat Cummins bagging a three-for for the Orange Army.
In reply, Mukesh Choudhary gave CSK an early breakthrough, sending Travis Head packing. Abhishek Sharma hit three fours and one six, but his 26 runs came off 21 balls. The difference between the two sides was the partnership between Heinrich Klaasen and Ishan Kishan. They added 75 runs off 41 balls with Klaasen being the aggressor.
After Klaasen departed for 47 off 26 balls, Nitish Kumar Reddy followed him shortly. However, Kishan held fort, and when he was dismissed for 70 off 47 deliveries, SRH needed just six more runs. Smaran Ravichandran hit a boundary on the last ball of the 19th over to take his team to a five-wicket win.
Heinrich Klaasen: Fifth fastest to reach 2000 IPL runs by innings (58) played.
