IPL 2026: ‘Get a cab & get to Chepauk’ - Ashwin takes playful dig at Kamboj ahead of LSG clash

Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) player Ravichandran Ashwin reportedly took a light-hearted dig at teammate Anshul Kamboj ahead of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) clash on May 10 at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Kamboj has been Chennai’s leading wicket-taker in IPL 2026 so far.
Earlier in the day in Chennai, the oath-taking ceremony of the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister was held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium. During the event, newly appointed CM C. Joseph Vijay was delivering his address when a member of the security personnel standing behind him bore a resemblance to Kamboj. Ashwin humorously pointed this out, making a playful remark on the situation.
“Duty always comes first, but on a must win match day #CSKVLSG, it’s a bit too much. It’s a day game, get a cab & get to Chepauk ASAP Anshul Kamboj. Big Game,” wrote Ashwin on X.

Kamboj has been in impressive form in IPL 2026, picking up 17 wickets in 10 matches at an economy rate of 8.91 and an average of 18.70. Chennai Super Kings have also shown solid recent form, winning five of their last seven matches and currently sitting sixth on the points table. Riding momentum from back-to-back victories, the five-time champions will look to secure their sixth win of the season.
On the other hand, Lucknow Super Giants gained confidence after a narrow nine-run win over Royal Challengers Bengaluru in their previous match. However, the Rishabh Pant-led side remains at the bottom of the standings with three wins and seven losses, making this fixture crucial for keeping their slim playoff hopes alive.
In the head-to-head record, Lucknow holds a slight edge over Chennai, winning three of their six meetings. That advantage could boost their confidence heading into this encounter, with both teams aiming for a vital win to strengthen their chances of progressing further in the tournament.
