In a commanding run-chase at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Gujarat Titans outclassed Royal Challengers Bengaluru to chase down 156 with confidence in Match 42 of the Indian Premier League 2026.
After losing the toss, RCB were put in to bat first, but their innings never truly gained sustained momentum. Despite a promising start, the batting unit failed to build partnerships and suffered a middle-order collapse at a crucial juncture.
Virat Kohli looked in fluent touch early, scoring 28 off just 13 balls, while Devdutt Padikkal top-scored with a brisk 40. However, once the top order was dismissed, wickets fell in clusters. Contributions from Rajat Patidar (19) and Romario Shepherd (17) were not enough to revive the innings, as RCB were bundled out for 155 in 19.2 overs.
For GT, it was a collective bowling effort. Arshad Khan starred with three wickets, while Rashid Khan and Jason Holder picked up two wickets each to keep RCB in check.
In reply, Gujarat Titans began aggressively. Shubman Gill led from the front with a scintillating 43 off 18 balls, while Jos Buttler continued the onslaught with a quickfire 39. The duo ensured GT stayed well ahead of the required rate.
Although RCB managed to pick up a few wickets through Bhuvneshwar Kumar, GT’s depth came to the fore. Rahul Tewatia played the finisher’s role to perfection, scoring an unbeaten 27 to guide his side home in just 15.5 overs, sealing a convincing four-wicket victory.
RCB’s innings was derailed by a dramatic middle-order collapse after a steady start. Once Kohli and Padikkal were dismissed, the likes of Jitesh Sharma, Tim David, and Krunal Pandya failed to make an impact. Gujarat’s bowlers applied relentless pressure, with Rashid Khan and Arshad Khan striking at regular intervals. The phase saw RCB lose momentum rapidly, preventing them from reaching a more competitive total.

The chase was defined by the aggressive approach of Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler. Gill’s explosive strokeplay in the powerplay put RCB on the back foot early, while Buttler complemented him perfectly with his attacking intent. Their partnership ensured GT raced ahead of the required run rate, effectively taking the game away from RCB within the first half of the innings.

With the top order laying a strong foundation, Rahul Tewatia once again showcased his finishing prowess. Walking in during a slightly tricky phase, he maintained composure and found boundaries at crucial moments. His unbeaten 27 ensured there were no late hiccups, as GT comfortably crossed the finish line with plenty to spare.
A commanding victory for GT 👏RCB fought well, but it wasn’t enough to stop the hosts as they register back-to-back wins 💙#GTvsRCB #JasonHolder #JiteshSharma #ShubmanGill #ShahrukhKhan #BhuvneshwarKumar #JosButtler
