IPL 2026: Gujarat Titans provide update on Shubman Gill's availability ahead of DC clash

The 2022 Indian Premier League champions Gujarat Titans (GT) have received a timely boost ahead of their crucial IPL 2026 clash against Delhi Capitals in Delhi, with an important update emerging on skipper Shubman Gill’s participation.
The Titans’ start to the season has been defined more by missed opportunities than a lack of quality, with back-to-back defeats, including a narrow six-run loss while chasing 211 against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at their home venue, Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
Despite a composed 73 off 44 from Sai Sudharsan, GT failed to finish the chase, losing momentum in the death overs. Without Gill at the top, the innings lacked stability, forcing the middle order to take on added pressure earlier than expected. However, there is positive news ahead of the fixture, as Gill’s opening partner provided a timely update on his availability.
“Shubman is super, he will be playing tomorrow,” Sudharsan was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
Gill had missed the previous game due to a neck spasm, with Rashid Khan leading the side in his absence. While GT remained competitive, the lack of a steady anchor and on-field leadership was evident.
Even the opposition has acknowledged Gill’s importance as the Delhi Capitals bowling coach Munaf Patel stating importance of Gill even on the opposition team.
“Shubman is a very big player. He is also the captain of his team. He is a good player. He is young. So obviously, it has an impact - bowlers have some relief if he does not play,” said Patel.
With Gill set to return, Gujarat Titans will look to regain balance at the top. His presence allows Sudharsan to play with greater freedom, while also ensuring the middle order is not pushed into recovery mode too early. More importantly, Gill’s calm leadership could be key in helping GT handle crucial moments better as they aim to get their campaign back on track.
