Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) lost to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Super Over at the BRSABV Ekana Cricket Stadium on Sunday, April 26.
Rishabh Pant won the toss and opted to field first on a tacky surface. Mohsin Khan bowled a brilliant spell with the new ball, as he dismissed Tim Seifert, Ajinkya Rahane, and Rovman Powell inside the first seven overs. Angkrish Raghuvanshi, on the other hand, was dismissed for obstructing the field, as he got in the way of a throw from Mohammed Shami. However, this turned out to be a controversial call from the third umpire, causing heated debate on social media.
Cameron Green showed intent, scoring 34 off 21 balls with the help of three sixes. However, he was dismissed in the 11th over, with the score at 73/5. Anukul Roy was dismissed on the first ball as KKR sank further. Ramandeep Singh also failed to make a mark, and the visitors were in dire straits at 93/7 in 15 overs when Sunil Narine joined Rinku.
It seemed as if KKR would be over the moon with a 140-plus score from the position they were in. However, Rinku's blitzkrieg at the back end of the innings helped the three-time champions finish on 155/7. Mohsin Khan was the pick of the bowlers for LSG, finishing with figures of 5/23, including one maiden.
In the second innings, KKR picked up an early wicket of Mitchell Marsh in the second over. However, Rishabh Pant and Aiden Markram steadied the ship with a 57-run partnership off 55 balls. KKR had to bounce back strongly through the middle overs. Varun Chakaravarthy and Sunil Narine once again came to the party, choking the flow of runs and chipping in with important wickets.
Cameron Green broke the partnership by dismissing Markram for 31. Pant departed soon after for a 38-ball 42, as Narine opened his account. Nicholas Pooran flopped once again, getting dismissed by Chakaravarthy for nine.
Ayush Badoni and Himmat Singh played handy knocks, but Mukul Choudhary and George Linde failed to make much of an impact. In the last over, 17 runs were needed. Kartik Tyagi started with two beamers before getting hit for a boundary. However, he bounced back strongly by dismissing Himmat. Seven runs were needed off the last ball, and Shami hit Tyagi for a six over long-off to take the game into the Super Over.
Narine was entrusted with bowling the Super Over. He started with the wicket of Pooran on the first ball. Rishabh Pant walked out next and took a single. Markram tried to hit the next ball for a six, but a brilliant combination in the field from Rovman Powell and Rinku helped KKR dismiss the South African batter.
LSG lost two wickets for one run, leaving the Knights a target of just two runs to chase. Rinku needed one ball to finish the match as he hit a boundary off Prince Yadav.
Mohsin Khan impressed in his first season in the IPL while playing for the Lucknow Super Giants a few years ago. Form and injury concerns forced him to be in and out of the team in the last few seasons. However, he was at his best on Sunday, setting the tone early with the new ball and never letting the momentum shift since then. He finished with figures of 5/23, his best in the shortest format.

Rinku Singh played one of the finest knocks in IPL 2026 so far. The southpaw walked out to bat when the score was 31/4. He dropped anchor, allowing Cameron Green to play his natural game. However, after KKR slipped to 93/7, Rinku took the onus on himself to take his team to a fighting total. The 28-year-old remained unbeaten on 83 off 51 balls, hitting seven fours and five sixes. He smashed four sixes in the final over of the KKR innings, bowled by Digvesh Rathi.

If you're heading into the Super Over with Sunil Narine on your side, you should be quietly confident. For a moment, it seemed KKR were considering giving the ball to Kartik Tyagi. However, eventually, better sense prevailed, and the mystery spinner was deployed. Narine bowled a tossed-up off-break, which Pooran tried to heave towards the leg-side. However, the southpaw connected with thin air and the ball crashed onto the top of the off-stump. The third ball was also bowled slowly, forcing Markram to use his power to clear the boundary. However, the right-handed batter just couldn't get enough distance on the shot. Rinku Singh took just one ball to chase the two runs needed for KKR in the Super Over.
