The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) finally tasted victory after seven matches when they defeated defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by nine runs in a rain-affected game at the Ekana International Stadium in Match 50 of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL).
LSG batted first and managed to post 209 from 19 overs, thanks to a brilliant century by Mitchell Marsh. The Australian opener scored 111 at a strike-rate of 198.21 to make sure his side registers a defendable total. The hosts also needed a 10-ball 32-run cameo from their captain, Rishabh Pant, to reach 200 and post a serious challenge in front of RCB.
The challenge, however, was out of the Royal Challengers’ reach, as they ended up nine runs short of the revised total. Rajat Patidar tried to keep his side in the game after losing Virat Kohli and Jacob Bethell early with 61 runs, but it was not enough. Prince Yadav was the pick of the bowlers, taking three wickets at an economy of 8.20.
As is the case with all IPL matches, LSG vs RCB also saw both teams break certain records and players reach personal milestones. Marsh’s century saw him attain several personal landmarks. However, not all milestones are positive in nature, with Kohli’s duck creating headlines in the cricketing fraternity.
