The Gujarat Titans beat the Delhi Capitals in Match 14 of the 2026 Indian Premier League at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in a nail-biting thriller.
Being put into bat, Gujarat Titans were rocked early as Sai Sudharsan was dismissed for 12. In walked Jos Buttler, and he immediately took on the Capitals bowlers. Coming off the back of a disappointing T20 World Cup for England and quiet start in IPL 2026, Buttler was in dire need of runs. He looked at his belligerent best, scoring 52 off just 27 balls.Captain Shubman Gill played almost played spectator in his partnership of 60 with Buttler before Kuldeep Yadav dismissed Buttler with one stayed a bit low.
Washington Sundar walked in at number 4 and stitched a brilliant 104-run stand with Gill. Titans skipper Gill reached his first half-century of the season. He was dismissed in the 18th over for 70 poff 45 by Lungi Ngidi. Sundar got to his half-century as well, before falling for 55 in the final over. Glenn Phillips remained unbeaten on 14 as the Gujarat Titans got to 210/4.
In response, the Capitals started their chase fluently, with openers KL Rahul and Pathum Nissanka stitching a 76-run stand. Nissanka fell to Prasidh Krishna for 41 off 24 but Rahul carried on. Rashid Khan picked up two wickets in two balls, which broke the game open. The first was that of Nitish Rana, courtesy a splendid tumbling effort from Sai Sudharsan, and then he bowled the in-form Sameer Rizvi with a googly.
Despite the fall of wickets around him, Rahul went on unfazed as he reached his half-century. David Miller joined him as captain Axar Patel was then dismissed cheaply by Rashid, as Glenn Phillips completed a splendid diving effort, while Tristan Stubbs was run out after a direct-hit from Sai Sudharsan. Siraj then dismissed Rahul for 92, as he nicked behind to Buttler.
Miller, who had walked back retired hurt with a finger injury, came out out to bat again after Stubbs’ dismissal, and was joined by Vipraj Nigam, with the Capitals needing 45 off the last three overs. The equation was reduced to 36 off the last two overs after a brilliant over from Kagiso Rabada. However, Siraj was taken for 23 runs in the following over. Prasidh Krishna held his nerve to defend 13 off the final over, as the Titans won by one run off the final ball.
KL has to be the most insane cricket character. Started so slow, Nissanka had to sacrifice himself. Then played a blinder only for this teammates to throw it away, then he sacrificed Stubbs and got out himself.
Buttler, Rashid and Miller showing out in the same game
Sameer Rizvi off the mark with a six in IPL off Rashid. Rashid's 1000th professional wicket, Sameer Rizvi.
DAMN. David Miller walked off with a finger injury earlier this game and comes back and smokes a 106m six that's hit the top tier of the stadium. Insane.
I wish in cricket we did F1 style media debriefs with every player involved on the day. I need to hear from Miller after that
Unreal geometry class being given by the IPL.
