Gujarat Titans registered a thumping 82-run win against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Match 56 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 on Tuesday, May 12. The hosts also dethroned SRH from their top spot on the points table, nearly confirming their qualification for the playoffs after the all-round show in Ahmedabad.
The match started with SRH opting to bowl first, as GT lost skipper Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler early, with the scorecard reading 34 for two at the end of the powerplay. Opener Sai Sudharsan played with a cautious approach thereafter, with Nishant Sindhu playing a 22-run cameo off 14. Washington Sundar (50 off 33) played the best part in the middle, scoring his maiden fifty of the season.
GT posted 168-5 in 20 overs, after a decent bowling performance from their attack, but Praful Hinge was the standout performer, accounting for the key wickets of Gill and Buttler in the powerplay. Skipper Pat Cummins also bowled a contained spell of 1-20, while Sakib Hussain picked a couple in his four overs. But the batting unit could not build on the platform provided by the bowlers.
Opener Travis Head departed for a four-ball duck in the first over, while his partner Abhishek Sharma followed suit six balls later. Ishan Kishan showed intent with a boundary and a six, but his stay was short-lived. Ravichandran Smaran, last of the four left-hander heavy top-order, departed after an underwhelming nine off 15. In-form Heinrich Klaasen's fall was another one biting the dust, as SRH lost half the side for 56.
Salil Arora and Nitish Kumar Reddy could not do much, while Cummins tried to counterattack with his nine-ball 19. Gujarat's extremely disciplined bowling performance was spearheaded by Kagiso Rabada and Jason Holder, both of whom got three wickets, while Prasidh Krishna continued his good form with a couple of breakthroughs. Mohammed Siraj picked only one wicket, but bowled a maiden over and gave away 11.
The last time SRH won against Gujarat Titans, Kieron Pollard was still playing in the IPL. 😭😭
