Kolkata Knight Riders are still alive in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 and are well and truly in the race for playoff qualification after their superb 29-run win against Gujarat Titans in Match 60 of the tournament at Eden Gardens on Saturday, May 16. KKR now have an excellent chance to make it to the top four, while GT will be looking for wins in their last league-stage tie to make sure they are in the top two.
The game started with Finn Allen (93 off 35) taking Gujarat bowlers to the cleaners, and the KKR opener was later joined by Angkrish Raghuvanshi (82 off 44), who simply carried the assault and was the partner in crime to do the damage throughout the middle overs. Cameron Green (52 off 28) also played a significant hand, as the hosts posted a daunting total of 247-2 on the board after the first innings.
In response, Gujarat started quite well and, at one point in time, looked comfortable as well. Skipper Shubman Gill (85 off 49) looked flawless, despite Sai Sudharsan (53* off 28) being retired hurt in the powerplay. Jos Buttler (57 off 35) struggled to hit the ball hard enough, as the asking rate got the better of Gujarat. Eventually, the pressure fell on Gill as he succumbed to the experienced campaigner Sunil Narine (2-29) in the 17th over, with the target looking out of reach already.
Meanwhile, Gujarat lost the battle to Kolkata as Saurabh Dubey (1-23) nearly confirmed the inevitable with just five runs in the penultimate over of the innings and a prized scalp of Buttler. Sudharsan came out to bat again after Gill's fall but failed to up the ante and break the shackles as GT's ship kept drowning further and further.
At the end, KKR reigned supreme by 29 runs and collected two very important points in their run to a place in the top four.
Kkr batters apart from Allen are still in the dinosaur era
Is Raghuvanshi an upgrade over Gill ?? 👀
14 sixes already in half the innings 😭😭😭
KKR are still alive in the tournament and the shots show they believe.
IPL rejected my project 😒
An entire generation of IPL stars came and went, but Sunil Narine still moves like a final boss in this league. Generational player 🙏
KKR should have shown more patience with Finn Allen this IPL season. This guy is an absolute beast.
Best bowling attack - destroyed 💥
Past,Present and future of KKR in a single frame
IPL 2026 will be remembered for all the catch drops.
