The Kolkata Knight Riders finally got off the mark in IPL 2026 with their first win of the season as they beat the Rajasthan Royals by four wickets at the Eden Gardens in Match 28 of the 2026 Indian Premier League.
Choosing to bat on a dry surface on a hot Sunday afternoon, the Royals started brilliantly in the powerplay, as the pair of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi put on 63 in the first six. While it was not a traditional blitz, they used the field restrictions to their advantage. They slowed down in the middle of the innings as the Knight Riders spinners tightened the screws.
Sooryavanshi fell to Varun Chakravarthy in the ninth over for 46, and from there it was a free fall. Chakravarthy looked at his best, fishing with figures of 3/14 in his four overs, while Sunil Narine backed him up brilliantly as he finished with figures of 2/26. Kartik Tyagi picked up three wickets in the death overs as the Royals finished their innings scoring 155/9.
The Royals responded immediately as Jofra Archer bowled Tim Seifert off the first ball of the innings while Nandre Burger dismissed Ajinkya Rahane in the next over, leaving the Knight Riders reeling at 5/2 in the second over. Cameron Green took the attack to the RR bowlers, scoring 27 off just 13 balls before he was stumped acrobatically off a wide ball down the leg side by Dhruv Jurel. The Knight Riders finished their powerplay at 51/3.

The Royals’ spinners tightened the screws in the innings, as Ravindra Jadeja dismissed Rovman Powell and Angkrish Raghuvanshi. Ramandeep Singh was bowled by debutant leg-spinner Yash Raj Punja. With the Knight Riders reeling at 85/6 in the 14th over, Rinku Singh was joined by Anukul Roy as the pair put on a 76-run stand off just 37 balls, taking the Knight Riders home with two balls to spare. Rinku finished unbeaten on 53 off 34 balls, while Anukul scored 29 off 16 balls.
