Punjab Kings kept their IPL 2026 playoff hopes alive with a dominant seven-wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants in a crucial league encounter. Led by Shreyas Iyer, PBKS produced a complete performance with both bat and ball to secure an important win that also ended Delhi Capitals’ chances of qualifying for the playoffs.
After winning the toss, Punjab Kings elected to bowl first. Lucknow Super Giants began aggressively but suffered early setbacks as their top-order batters failed to convert starts. Josh Inglis played a superb knock under pressure and anchored the innings with 72 runs off 44 deliveries, smashing nine fours and two sixes at a strike rate of 163.64. He stitched together a valuable 65-run partnership with skipper Rishabh Pant for the fourth wicket, stabilizing the innings after early damage.
Ayush Badoni provided quick support with a brisk 43 off just 18 balls, while Abdul Samad added the finishing touches with an unbeaten 37 from 20 deliveries. Their late acceleration powered LSG to a competitive total of 196/6 in 20 overs. For Punjab Kings, Marco Jansen impressed with figures of 2/33, while Yuzvendra Chahal delivered a disciplined spell and claimed 2/25.
Chasing 197, Punjab Kings had an early setback as Priyansh Arya departed on the very first ball, and Cooper Connolly also failed to make an impact. However, Prabhsimran Singh and Shreyas Iyer turned the game around with a magnificent 140-run partnership for the third wicket in just 76 balls.
Prabhsimran continued his excellent form, scoring 69 off 39 balls with seven boundaries and two sixes at a strike rate of 176.92. Captain Shreyas Iyer led from the front with a sensational unbeaten century, smashing 101* in only 51 deliveries. His innings included 11 fours and five sixes at an outstanding strike rate of 198.04 as PBKS chased down the target comfortably in 18 overs.
With this crucial victory, Punjab Kings climbed to fourth place in the points table with 15 points and remained firmly in contention for the IPL 2026 playoffs.

Who would've thought that 1 random rain-affected game of this season at the start of April has made the points table so interesting that we don't know which is the 4th team to qualify until the last day of the league stage. IPL you absolutely beauty, man.
