Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in a crunch run chase and Mukul Choudhary on strike – do you get déjà vu? Well, it did not turn out to be another starry night out for the hosts, as they faced a scathing defeat of 40 runs against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Match 32 of IPL 2026 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium, Lucknow, on Tuesday, April 22.
Barring a couple of 40-odd run partnerships in the middle stage of the chase, LSG did not show any substance, failing to chase a small target of 160 against the Riyan Parag-led side. When Rajasthan posted 159 on the board for the loss of six wickets after 20 overs, it seemed that they were behind by 30 runs, if not more. However, their bowlers breathed fire in the middle, containing the LSG batting for just 119.
As RR batted first, Yashasvi Jaiswal (22 off 12) departed after a brief cameo, while 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, touted as a prodigy, fell for a meagre 8 of 11. Dhruv Jurel departed for a golden duck. Parag and Shimron Hetmyer survived through the middle overs, but both fell, and the responsibility to finish came on the shoulders of Ravindra Jadeja (43* off 29) and impact player Shubham Dubey (19* off 11).

RR bowlers were in the game right away, with Jofra Archer striking Ayush Badoni in the first over itself. Just four balls later, Rishabh Pant continued his shambolic run in the IPL with a three-ball duck. Aiden Markram occupied the crease for six balls but succumbed to Archer without troubling the scorers. Nicholas Pooran played a rather sluggish knock, with RR batters keeping LSG at their toes throughout the second innings.
Mitchell Marsh played the lone warrior's knock for his 55 off 41, but it was never going to be enough, as the batter could not find any able partner alongside to keep the runs flowing from both ends. Apart from Archer's 3-20, Nandre Burger (2-27) and Brijesh Sharma (2-18) also showcased their fast-bowling prowess for wickets to their names. Spinners Ravindra Jadeja and Ravi Bishnoi took one wicket apiece.
