Quinton de Kock (112 off 60) took all the limelight, smashing a terrific unbeaten hundred on his return to Mumbai Indians in their battle against Punjab Kings in Match No. 24 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday, April 16. However, it was the visiting side, led by the inspiring Shreyas Iyer, who emerged victorious on the night, winning their fifth game of the season.

The encounter began with Punjab winning the toss and asking the hosts to bat first. The move to bowl first worked in favour of PBKS as they took a couple of wickets in the powerplay itself, while Mumbai managed to score 48 in the first six. From there, de Kock and Naman Dhir (50 off 31) steadied the ship with an emphatic partnership for the third wicket. Arshdeep Singh took three scalps in his tight four-over spell.

When it came to batting, Punjab too lost a couple of wickets in the powerplay itself, but opening batter Prabhsimran Singh paired with his skipper to stage a staggering century stand for the third wicket while chasing 196. Prabhsimran (80 off 39) was unbeaten, while Iyer made 66 off 35 in a knock that included four huge sixes as well. They added 139 runs to their partnership that bought the side closer to yet another win.

For Mumbai, AM Ghazanfar was the pick of the bowlers for his two wickets, but it surely did not prove to be enough, while de Kock's hundred went in vain. With this win, PBKS have now once again come back to the top of the points table and are now the only team to win all of their games thus far. Meanwhile, MI started well with a win against Kolkata Knight Riders but have now lost four on the trot.
