Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) lost to the Rajasthan Royals (RR) by seven wickets at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Tuesday, May 19.
Yashasvi Jaiswal came in for the toss as Riyan Parag missed the game due to a hamstring niggle. The opening batter won the toss and opted to field first. However, the move didn't pay dividends as Mitchell Marsh and Josh Inglis took the RR bowlers to the cleaners.
The Australian duo amassed 109 inside nine overs before Inglis was dismissed for a 29-ball 60. Nicholas Pooran hit a couple of sixes but couldn't convert his start into a substantial score.
Marsh, however, continued hammering the bowlers through the middle overs and brought up yet another half-century. LSG skipper Rishabh Pant played some fancy shots, and they paid off. He scored 35 off 23 balls during a 64-run partnership with Marsh.
While the Royals did bowl a few quiet overs through the middle, the Super Giants finished on a formidable score of 220/5. Marsh top-scored with a 57-ball 96, hitting 11 fours and five sixes.
In reply, Yashasvi hit the ground running, hitting boundaries at will. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, on the other hand, was a bit more conservative than he usually is. However, after the stand-in skipper was dismissed in the seventh over, Sooryavanshi cut loose.
Sooryavanshi and Dhruv Jurel had a 105-run partnership for the second wicket. The former smashed 68 off 22 balls during the partnership. The southpaw was eventually dismissed in the 14th over, but RR had already put on 180 runs at that point. Sooryavanshi's knock ended on 93 off 38 balls.
Lhuan-dre Pretorius was run-out for seven on his comeback before Jurel (53*), and Donovan Ferreira (16*) finished the game with five balls to spare.
