The Rajasthan Royals beat the Mumbai Indians by 30 runs in Match 69 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, May 24. The win means the Royals seal their place in the playoffs and will face the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Eliminator on May 27 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Stadium, New Chandigarh.
Being put into bat, the Royals were dented early, losing the openers Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal early in the powerplay. Jaiswal fell while trying to attack against the off-spin of Will Jacks, and Sooryavanshi fell to Deepak Chahar. Riyan Parag fell to AM Ghazanfar in the final ball of the powerplay, with the score reading 54 for 3.
Dasun Shanaka and Dhruv Jurel set to repair the Royals' innings, but Shanaka fell for 29, and Jurel fell for 38, leaving the Royals reeling at 119 for 5. Jofra Archer, handed a promotion up the order, scored a 15-ball 32, and some handy runs in the back end from Ravindra Jadeja pushed the Royals up to 205/8 in their 20 overs.
The Mumbai Indians were handed an early blow with a searing powerplay spell from Archer, who dismissed Rohit Sharma and Naman Dhir in successive overs. Nandre Burger removed Ryan Rickelton to leave the five-time champions reeling at 24 for 3. Tilak Varma fell to Brijesh Sharma with the score at 38 for 4. Suryakumar Yadav and Will Jacks stitched a stand of 63 runs from 39 balls before Jacks fell to Yash Punja for 33.
A rejuvenated Hardik Pandya came onto the crease as he took the attack to the Royals' bowlers. He took the bowling to all parts of the ground but fell to Archer for a brilliant 34 off just 15 balls. Burger dismissed Suryakumar for a well-made 60 off 42 balls, which sniffed out the final glimmer of hope for MI, as they finished their innings on 175 for 9. Archer finished with figures of 3 for 17 from his four overs in a Player of the Match performance.
