Rajasthan Royals beat the Mumbai Indians by 30 runs in a thrilling encounter at the Wankhede Stadium in Match 69 of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 on May 24.
Being put into bat, Rajasthan Royals were reduced to 54 for 3 at the end of the powerplay. The 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was dismissed for just four runs thanks to Deepak Chahar’s brilliance with the ball. Yashasvi Jaiswal had a good start but could not capitalise as he was dismissed for 27.
Dhruv Jurel (38 off 26) and Dasun Shanaka (29 off 15) tried to build a partnership but got out on critical stages. Jofra Archer was promoted and played and he delivered a handy knock of 32 off 15 balls. Ravindra Jadeja and Nandre Burger gave RR a good finish, as they scored 205 in their 20 overs.
From MI, Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur took two wickets each, whereas Will Jacks, Corbin Bosch, and AM Ghazanfar picked up one wicket each.
Chasing a target, the five-time champions had a horror start, as they were reduced to 38 for 4 in 5.1 overs thanks to a bowling exhibition by Archer. He dismissed both Rohit Sharma and Naman Dhir to crash MI’s hopes to chase the target.
Middle-order batter Suryakumar Yadav played a handy knock of 60 runs in 40 balls and was well supported by Will Jacks (33 off 18) and Hardik Pandya (34 off 15), but that was not enough.
Archer was the standout bowler, taking three wickets. Nandre Burger, Yash Raj Punja, and Brijesh Sharma took two wickets each to help their side qualify for the playoffs.
In a lighthearted moment during the intense match, Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul Thakur shared a heartfelt moment during the 20th over of RR’s innings. The all-rounder was dismissed by the MI bowler, and it was followed by an animated celebration by him. But once that ball was called no-ball, Jadeja returned the favour by imitating Shardul. It was a great moment in a high-pressure situation.

After a mini collapse, the experienced duo of Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav put on a 48-run partnership in just 25 balls. Before that, Will Jacks and Suryakumar, too, had a good 63-run partnership. When it seemed like skipper Pandya is going to take his side home, Archer came back and delivered a thumping blow to MI’s hopes.
