Rutherford’s departure for just 5 runs off 7 balls epitomized the struggles faced by the five-time champions throughout their innings. The early collapse began in the third over when Mukesh removed Ryan Rickelton (9) and Tilak Varma (0), leaving MI reeling at 18/2. Although veteran Rohit Sharma provided some stability with a breezy 35 off 26 balls, including four boundaries and a six, he fell victim to Patel just as he looked set to accelerate.

Suryakumar Yadav, captaining the side, shouldered the burden of the recovery. “SKY” notched a gritty half-century (51 off 36 balls), peppered with five boundaries and two signature sixes, but he found little support from the other end. The disciplined Delhi bowling unit, led by Mukesh’s clinical 2/26 and Patel’s economical 1/22, ensured that MI could never truly break free.

Following the fall of Naman Dhir (28) in the penultimate over, it was left to Mitchell Santner (18*) and Corbin Bosch (11*) to drag Mumbai to a competitive total. A late flurry of runs saw MI finish their 20 overs at 162/6. While the total offers the MI bowlers something to defend, the momentum sits firmly with the Delhi Capitals.
