Records and milestones often emerge in the high-pressure environment of the Indian Premier League, where every innings can redefine a player’s reputation. While Royal Challengers Bengaluru endured a disappointing outing against Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2026, skipper Rajat Patidar managed to provide a silver lining with a remarkable personal achievement. The stylish right-hander once again showcased his aggressive intent under pressure and added another memorable chapter to his growing IPL career during the clash at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on May 22.

Patidar fought hard in RCB’s chase and played a captain’s knock when the rest of the batting lineup struggled to keep up with the required rate. Although his effort could not prevent Bengaluru from slipping to defeat, the innings ensured his name entered the IPL record books in spectacular fashion.

The RCB captain produced a determined innings of 56 runs from 39 deliveries, striking six boundaries and one six during his stay at the crease. That lone maximum turned out to be a historic moment in IPL history. With that hit, Patidar completed 100 sixes in the tournament and became the fastest Indian batter to reach the landmark in terms of balls faced. The milestone highlighted the fearless brand of cricket the Bengaluru skipper has consistently displayed since establishing himself in the league.

Patidar reached the century mark of IPL sixes in just 933 deliveries, breaking the previous Indian record held by Shivam Dube. The Chennai Super Kings all-rounder had earlier achieved the feat in 992 balls, but Patidar comfortably surpassed that mark with his fluent strokeplay and attacking mindset.

What makes the achievement even more impressive is the consistency with which Patidar has scored at a high strike rate in pressure situations. Over the past few seasons, he has emerged as one of the cleanest hitters in the league, especially against spin bowling. His ability to accelerate in the middle overs and dominate bowlers with minimal deliveries has now earned him a place among some of the most destructive batters in IPL history.

Patidar’s record-breaking effort also placed him in elite company alongside some of the most explosive overseas stars the IPL has witnessed.

West Indies powerhouse Andre Russell continues to hold the all-time record, having reached 100 IPL sixes in only 657 balls while representing Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders. Another Caribbean batter, Nicholas Pooran, occupies the second position after taking 884 balls to complete the milestone across spells with Punjab Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Lucknow Super Giants.

Patidar now sits third on the overall list and stands as the highest-ranked Indian player in this category. His achievement reflects not only his attacking batting style but also the impact he has made for RCB in a relatively short span of time.
