IPL 2026 : Rashid Khan shatters Sameer Rizvi’s stumps with an absolute jaffa during DC vs GT game

The IPL 2026 season continues to deliver heart-stopping drama as the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi witnessed a classic encounter between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Gujarat Titans (GT) on April 8, 2026. In a high-stakes Match 14, the spotlight shone brightest on the Afghan maestro, Rashid Khan, whose magical spell turned the game on its head, leaving the home crowd in stunned silence.
The momentum of the chase shifted dramatically in the 10th over, an over that will be etched in the highlights of this season. Delhi Capitals were cruising at 101/1, looking set to dismantle the target, until Rashid decided to exert his dominance.
The first blow came at 9.5 overs when Nitish Rana was sent packing for 5. Rana attempted a slog against a flatter delivery, only to find a flying Sai Sudharsan, who plucked a brilliant diving catch out of thin air. However, the real magic was reserved for the very next ball.
DC opted to bring in their Impact Player, the young sensation Sameer Rizvi, to stabilize the innings. Rashid greeted him with an absolute jaffa. Delivering a ripping googly that landed just outside off-stump, the ball hissed off the surface and spun back sharply. Rizvi, looking to punch through mid-off, was completely beaten on the inside edge. The ball sneaked through the gap and dinked the off-stump, sending Rizvi back for a golden duck. In the span of two deliveries, Rashid had reduced DC to 101/3, finishing a masterclass spell of 3/17 that eventually earned him the Player of the Match honours.

Despite the middle-order collapse triggered by Rashid, the match remained a see-saw battle until the final delivery. Gujarat Titans, after being put in to bat, posted a formidable 210/4. The foundation was laid by a blistering 70 off 45 balls from captain Shubman Gill and a quick-fire 52 from Jos Buttler. Washington Sundar provided the late-innings flourish with an unbeaten 55 off 32 balls, punishing the DC bowlers in the death overs.
The Delhi Capitals’ response was led by KL Rahul, who played a captain’s knock of 92 off 52 balls, laced with nine boundaries and one six. Alongside Pathum Nissanka (41), Rahul kept DC ahead of the required rate for the majority of the innings.
The final over was a test of nerves. With David Miller (41*) fighting at one end and the lower order scrambling for runs, DC needed 2 runs off the final ball. However, a clinical run-out of Kuldeep Yadav by Buttler ensured GT won by 1 run. It was a game of the thinnest margins, where Rashid’s three-wicket haul and 100.68 MVP points proved to be the ultimate difference-maker in the capital.
