IPL 2026: RCB vs MI, Match 54 - Top player battles to watch out for
Published - 09 May 2026, 18:38 IST | Updated - 09 May 2026, 19:01 IST
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will host Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium, Raipur in Match 54 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 on Sunday, May 12.
This marks the first of RCB’s two home fixtures to be played in Raipur. The defending champions come into this clash on the back of a nine-run loss to the Lucknow Super Giants in a rain-affected game reduced to 19 overs per side at the Ekana Stadium. Mumbai Indians, meanwhile, defeated the same Lucknow side at the Wankhede Stadium.
The two teams find themselves in contrasting situations: RCB remain well-placed for a playoff spot despite some recent inconsistency, while MI are all but eliminated from playoff contention. The defending champions will be looking to solidify their standing with a strong finish, whereas Mumbai Indians will be playing for pride and a slim mathematical chance of making the playoffs.
Rohit Sharma made a strong return to action against Lucknow Super Giants after missing five games through injury, smashing a belligerent 84 off 44 balls. His explosive starts at the top of the order will be crucial if MI are to challenge RCB. The Hitman has scored 221 runs at a strike rate exceeding 170 across the five matches he has played in IPL 2026.
Tasked with stopping him will be Josh Hazlewood. The Australian fast bowler was RCB’s standout performer during their 2025 title-winning campaign but has been working his way back from a long injury layoff. He showed his class against Delhi Capitals with player-of-the-match figures of 4/12, including three wickets in the powerplay.
