IPL 2026 : Rishabh Pant grabs a one-handed screamer to dismiss Liam Livingstone in SRH vs LSG clash

The 10th match of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium was billed as a high-octane clash, but few could have predicted the sheer defensive masterclass and individual brilliance that would unfold on the evening of April 5. As Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) hosted the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), the atmosphere in Hyderabad was electric, yet the home crowd was left stunned by a moment of pure wicket-keeping magic from LSG captain Rishabh Pant. In a game defined by early collapses and late resurgences, Pant’s spectacular one-handed grab to dismiss the dangerous Liam Livingstone stood out as the definitive highlight of the first innings.
The defining moment of the match arrived in the 8th over, specifically at the 7.1 mark, with SRH reeling at a precarious 26/3. Digvesh Rathi was brought into the attack to tighten the screws, and he did exactly that. Livingstone, looking to break the shackles of a stagnant run rate, attempted a cheeky lap sweep. However, the English power-hitter failed to account for the bounce, resulting in a thick top-edge that ricocheted off his left shoulder and ballooned behind the stumps.
What followed was a sequence of movements that reminded the world why Pant is considered a generational talent behind the stumps. Initially leaping in excitement, perhaps thinking the ball had struck the pad, Pant quickly recalibrated mid-air. With feline-like reflexes, he shifted his weight to his left with the angle of the ball, then suddenly dived full-stretch across to his right. He snared the ball one-handed just inches above the turf, ending Livingstone’s stay of 14 runs off 20 balls. The dismissal left SRH in tatters at 26/4, as Rathi celebrated a wicket that was 90% the keeper’s doing.

While Pant’s catch threatened to end the contest early, the Sunrisers Hyderabad showcased immense grit to claw their way back into the game. The early damage was done by a relentless Mohammed Shami, who dismantled the top order by removing Abhishek Sharma (0) and the prolific Travis Head (7) within the first three overs. When Ishan Kishan fell to Prince Yadav for 14, SRH looked unlikely to even cross the triple-digit mark.
However, the middle-order duo of Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Kumar Reddy staged a phenomenal recovery. The pair stitched together a vital 100-run partnership for the fifth wicket, single-handedly changing the momentum of the innings. The South African powerhouse anchored the innings with a calculated 62 off 41 balls, smashing five fours and two towering sixes. Whereas, watching his senior partner stroke for stroke, Reddy hammered 56 off 33 balls, including five maximums, reaching his half-century in just 30 deliveries.
Their departure sparked another collapse, as LSG’s Avesh Khan (2/36) and Prince Yadav (2/34) cleaned up the tail. SRH eventually finished their 20 overs at 156/9, a competitive total considering they were four wickets down for next to nothing in the first seven overs. As the players headed into the break, the conversation remained centered on Pant’s ‘screamer’ and whether SRH’s spirited fightback would be enough to defend a sub-160 total on a tricky Hyderabad surface.
