IPL 2026 : Sai Sudharsan suffers bizarre hit-wicket dismissal during GT vs RCB Qualifier 1

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) delivered a complete performance in Qualifier 1 of IPL 2026, thrashing Gujarat Titans (GT) by 92 runs at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala to secure a place in the final for the second consecutive season. RCB dominated with both bat and ball after posting a massive total before dismantling Gujarat’s batting lineup during the chase. While Rajat Patidar’s explosive innings and RCB’s record-breaking total stole the spotlight, one bizarre moment involving Sai Sudharsan quickly grabbed massive attention across social media.
The incident took place during the third over of Gujarat Titans’ innings while chasing a daunting 255-run target. Jacob Duffy bowled a short-of-a-length delivery outside off stump, and Sudharsan attempted to cut the ball towards the off-side. Although he connected with the shot cleanly, the bat slipped out of his hands during the follow-through.
In an extraordinary turn of events, the bat flew backwards, bounced near the crease and crashed into the stumps, leaving Sudharsan stunned. The umpires immediately signaled him out hit wicket. The dismissal turned even more remarkable as Sudharsan became the first player in IPL history to be dismissed hit wicket twice. The left-handed batter managed just 14 runs before walking back to the pavilion.
HOW UNFORTUNATE! 🤯
Probably the only way to end Sai Sudharsan's streak of five 50-plus scores 🫣

Earlier in the match, RCB produced one of the most destructive batting performances seen in IPL playoffs history. Captain Patidar led the carnage with a breathtaking unbeaten 93 off just 33 deliveries, smashing nine sixes and five boundaries.
Virat Kohli provided the early momentum with a quick 43, while Devdutt Padikkal and Krunal Pandya also made valuable contributions. Bengaluru exploded in the final phase of the innings, collecting 114 runs in the last six overs to finish at a mammoth 254/5, which is the highest total ever recorded in an IPL playoff match.
Chasing a near-impossible target, Gujarat Titans never recovered after losing wickets at regular intervals. Sudharsan’s freak dismissal was followed by Shubman Gill’s early departure, while Jos Buttler also failed to make an impact.
At one stage, GT were reduced to 51/5 as RCB’s bowling attack completely dominated under pressure. Rahul Tewatia fought hard with a counterattacking 68, but the required rate kept climbing rapidly. Gujarat were eventually bowled out for 162.
With the emphatic win, Royal Challengers Bengaluru advanced to their fifth IPL final and now stand just one step away from defending their title successfully. Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans will get another opportunity to qualify for the final when they play the winner of the Eliminator.
