IPL 2026: Shubman Gill flies at extra cover to dismiss Shivam Dube, silences CSK crowd

Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill produced a stunning moment in the field during Match No. 66 of the 2026 Indian Premier League against Chennai Super Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium on May 21.
The spectacular catch came during the 11th over of CSK’s chase when Rashid Khan was introduced into the attack. Shivam Dube was batting aggressively and had already raced to 47 runs from just 16 deliveries, threatening to take the game away from GT with his clean hitting.
On the third ball of the over, Rashid bowled a googly outside off stump, forcing Dube to reach out for an attacking lofted shot. However, the batter failed to time the ball properly and got it off the toe-end of the bat. The ball soared high over the extra-cover region, where Gill showed exceptional awareness and athleticism. The GT skipper sprinted backwards, kept his eyes firmly on the ball, and completed a sensational diving catch with both hands to send Dube back to the pavilion.

Gill’s celebration immediately grabbed attention as he pointed a finger to his lips, gesturing toward the CSK supporters to stay silent. He then animatedly signalled toward the crowd, adding extra intensity to the high-pressure contest.
Earlier in the match, Gujarat Titans posted an imposing total of 229/4 in 20 overs. Sai Sudharsan starred with a superb 84 off 53 balls, smashing seven fours and four sixes. Gill contributed 64 from 37 deliveries, including seven boundaries and three sixes, while Jos Buttler provided the finishing touch with an unbeaten 57 off just 27 balls, featuring five fours and four sixes.
A convincing win would strengthen GT’s chances of finishing at the top of the points table, while CSK needed victory to keep their playoff hopes alive.
