Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have brought in Gerald Coetzee as a replacement for David Payne for the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season. Payne, a left-arm pacer, featured in two matches for the Hyderabad-based side this year, picking up two wickets. However, he has now been ruled out due to an ankle injury, forcing the franchise to look for a replacement midway through the tournament.
Coetzee, a right-arm fast bowler from South Africa, brings international experience with him. He has represented his country in four Tests, 14 One Day Internationals, and 18 T20 Internationals, claiming a total of 67 wickets across formats. In the IPL, Coetzee has previously played 14 matches for Gujarat Titans (GT) and Mumbai Indians (MI), where he picked up 15 wickets. SRH have secured his services for INR 2 crore for the remainder of the season.
The franchise has also been dealing with other injury setbacks. England allrounder Brydon Carse has been ruled out after sustaining a hand injury during a net session before the season began. He did not feature in any games, prompting SRH to sign Sri Lankan fast bowler Dilshan Madushanka as his replacement.

There is, however, positive news for SRH as captain Pat Cummins has been cleared to rejoin the squad. Cummins had been sidelined after undergoing scans on his back in Sydney and is yet to play this season. He is expected to make his return potentially against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on April 25 in Jaipur.
Currently placed fifth on the points table with two wins from five matches, SRH will next face Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on April 18.
Sunrisers Hyderabad began their IPL 2026 campaign with a loss to defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) but bounced back against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). They then suffered consecutive defeats to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) before recovering strongly with a win over RR.
