Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batter Tim David has been fined 30 percent of his match fees and handed two demerit points for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during RCB’s clash against Mumbai Indians in Raipur on Sunday, May 10.

The Australian power-hitter was found guilty of violating Article 2.6 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which relates to “showing an offensive gesture” during the match. The incident reportedly took place after RCB’s thrilling victory over Mumbai Indians, with David’s gesture quickly going viral on social media and sparking widespread debate among fans.

The IPL released an official statement regarding the sanction. Apart from Tim David, RCB’s head coach Andy Flower, too, was fined 15% of his match fees for the ‘use of an audible obscenity during a match’. He had breached article 2.3 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. The incident occurred in the 17th over of RCB’s innings, where Flower was involved in a heated conversation with the fourth umpire.

"Tim David, All-rounder, Royal Challengers Bengaluru has been fined 30% of his applicable match fee and has also accumulated two demerit points for breaching Level 1 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct for Players and Team officials," the official release said.

"Tim was found to have breached article 2.6 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which relates to 'using a gesture that is obscene, offensive or insulting.' Tim admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction imposed by Match Referee, Amit Sharma," it aqdded.
