Ahead of Gujarat Titans’ (GT) crucial clash against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL 2026 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on May 22, Gujarat opener Sai Sudharsan reflected on his journey this season, and the emotional connection he continues to share with CSK.

The left-handed batter has once again emerged as one of Gujarat Titans’ most reliable performers this season. After winning the Orange Cap in IPL 2025, Sudharsan has followed it up with another impressive campaign, crossing the 500-run mark and playing a vital role in GT’s push towards the playoffs.

The Tamil Nadu batter recalled how, during his school days, he and his friends would eagerly wait by the roadside just to catch a glimpse of the CSK team bus passing by. Sudharsan also spoke about scoring his maiden IPL century against CSK in the 2024 season, calling it a memorable and emotional moment in his career.

“It wasn’t a conscious decision; I think it was the grace of God, and it came at the right time. But it’s always special to spend time in the middle, especially when I play against CSK because, whatever may be said and done, there’s a deep emotional connection with CSK for me,” said while speaking on JioStar.

“I grew up watching CSK play. We used to stand on the road just to watch the team bus pass by our school. Those are fantastic memories. I’m grateful to God that I’ve been able to deliver some memorable performances against CSK,” he continued.

With Gujarat Titans eyeing an important win in Ahmedabad, Sudharsan will once again be expected to play a pivotal role at the top of the order, this time against the franchise that shaped many of his childhood cricketing memories. A win against the five-time champions will mean that the IPL 2022 champions will most likely enter the playoffs as a top-2 side, and will play the Qualifier 1.
