Gujarat Titans (GT), one of the two new franchises introduced ahead of the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, was acquired by CVC Capital Partners for a massive INR 5625 crore. The franchise picked Hardik Pandya, Rashid Khan, and Shubman Gill ahead of the 2022 mega auction, with Pandya named captain and Ashish Nehra appointed as head coach.
GT had a dream debut season, clinching the IPL title in 2022 - their first attempt. They followed it up with another impressive campaign in 2023, reaching the final before narrowly losing to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in a thrilling last-ball finish. The franchise, featuring key players like Mohammed Shami and David Miller, quickly established itself as one of the most balanced and competitive sides in the league.
Ahead of the 2024 season, Pandya was traded to Mumbai Indians (MI), leading to Shubman Gill, the 2023 Orange Cap winner, taking over the captaincy. However, the Titans failed to qualify for the playoffs that year. They bounced back strongly in 2025, where their top order, featuring Gill, Sai Sudharsan, and Jos Buttler, delivered stellar performances, although the team was eventually knocked out in the Eliminator.
In IPL 2025, the Ahmedabad-based franchise finished fourth on the points table. Their top three batters each amassed over 500 runs, while Prasidh Krishna won the Purple Cap with 25 wickets. With consistent performances, strong leadership, and strategic recruitment, Gujarat Titans have firmly cemented their reputation as one of the most competitive and dependable franchises in the IPL.
