Ireland announce Gaby Lewis-led squad for ODIs vs West Indies
On Friday, July 2, Cricket Ireland has announced the Ireland Women’s squad for the impending three-match ODI series, scheduled to be held at Bready, Northern Ireland, next week. This is the first set of fixtures Ireland will play in the latest cycle of the ICC Women’s Championship (IWC).
Gaby Lewis will continue leading the side, with star all-rounder Orla Prendergast being her deputy. Amy Hunter is the first-choice wicketkeeper-batter, while Christina Coulter Reilly being her backup.
It's been a while since Ireland played 50-over cricket. In fact, this is going to be their first ODI assignment in 2026. They played ODI cricket back in December last year against South Africa. The European side was whitewashed 0-3 but they gave a good account of their progress as a cricketing nation.
All-rounders Laura Delany, Georgina Dempsey, seamer Ava Canning and off-spinner Lara McBride are the four players who were a part of that series but have not been picked for the one against the West Indies. Alana Dalzell, Louise Little, and Kia McCartney are the three players who have replaced them. As this is a home series, Ireland have decided to name only a 14-woman squad.
The first ODI is scheduled to be played on Friday, July 10. The next two games are set to be played on July 12 and July 15.
Interestingly, Ireland produced a magnificent result against the West Indies during the 2026 Women's T20 World Cup. Lewis and Co. defeated the Caribbean side on June 27 by six wickets at the County Ground in Bristol. This was Ireland's first-ever win in the Women's T20 World Cup. They will look to take confidence from that historic win and go from strength to strength when they face Hayley Matthews and Co. this month.
