Ace Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer has revealed that he felt "frustrated" after his non-selection in India's 15-member squad for the Asia Cup, considering that he deserved a spot due to his recent performances. Iyer was not even in the standbys, However, he revealed that he put aside his disappointment after a short time. He remarked that what truly counts is the collective happiness and the team winning at the end of the day.
"It is only frustrating when you know that you deserve to be in the team, in the playing XI. That time, it is frustrating. But at the same time, when you know that someone is performing and playing consistently for the team and bringing out their best, you support them. Eventually, the goal is for the team to win and when the team is winning, everyone is happy," stated Iyer on the iQOO podcast.
Iyer said that he wanted to work hard off the field and enhance himself to such a level that his on-field performances become hard to ignore.
"If you don’t get a chance, you have to see to it that you do your work ethically. It’s not like you have to perform only when someone is watching. When you prepare yourself in a certain manner, whatever happens on the ground is just a reflection of what you do off the field. If your prep is good and you don’t perform in one or two games, in the third game you are definitely going to perform. I have experienced this," he added.
"India A captaincy has become a case of musical chairs"
Iyer last represented India in their title-winning Champions Trophy 2025 campaign, when he emerged as the leading run-scorer for the Men in Blue with 243 runs in five matches. He then went onto score 604 runs in 17 matches for Punjab Kings in IPL 2025, leading the team to a runners-up finish.
