The late singing sensation Asha Bhosle received a fitting tribute from the Wankhede crowd ahead of Mumbai Indians’ (MI) game against defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Sunday, April 12.
Asha Bhosle sadly passed away on April 12, aged 92, after suffering from a cardiac arrest following a brief illness. She breathed her last at the Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai.
MI and RCB players and staff, along with the crowd, paid tribute to the legendary singer by observing a minute’s silence before the start of the match. The five-time champions shared the heartwarming video on their social media platforms.
“A moment of silence at Wankhede as we remember and pay tribute to the legendary Asha Bhosle Tai. Our players are wearing black armbands as a mark of respect.”

As a token of respect, the entire MI squad wore black armbands for their game against RCB. The whole side took the field after captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and decided to bowl first at the Wankhede Stadium.
Asha Bhosle also had a unique connection with cricket. She partnered with former Australia fast bowler Brett Lee for a music video back in 2007. In one of the rarest crossovers between the music industry and the game of cricket, the pair collabbed for the track 'You’re the One for Me'.
Lee later revealed that the music video was filmed when he came to India to form part of the Australia squad for the 2006 ICC Champions Trophy, which they went on to win, beating the West Indies in the final.
Sachin Tendulkar saddened as singer Asha Bhosle passes away
Asha Bhosle had a lot of respect from the cricketing world, with Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli showing their respect following the tragic news. The Tendulkar family, in particular, was extremely close to the playback singer. The former India batter shared a heartfelt message on X (formerly Twitter), calling her a part of their family.
