Delhi Capitals (DC) fast bowler Lungi Ngidi has finally broken his silence after suffering a frightening injury during the IPL 2026 clash against Punjab Kings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. The South African pacer, whose heavy fall left players and fans deeply concerned, took to social media on Sunday to share a short yet important update.
Notably, the incident took place during a tense moment in the afternoon fixture when Ngidi attempted a catch and landed awkwardly on his neck, forcing immediate medical attention on the field. With the game halted for several minutes and an ambulance entering the playing area, the scene created panic among teammates and supporters alike.
The worrying moment unfolded when Punjab Kings batter Priyansh Arya mistimed a shot off Axar Patel’s bowling. Positioned at mid-off, Ngidi sprinted back in an attempt to complete the catch but misjudged the ball’s trajectory. While trying to recover his balance, the pacer fell badly and hit his head and neck hard on the ground. The impact was severe enough to leave him motionless for several minutes as doctors and physiotherapists rushed onto the field.
Play was stopped for nearly 15 to 20 minutes as medical staff carefully assessed his condition. Players from both teams watched anxiously, with concern clearly visible on the faces of those around him.
As Ngidi remained on the ground, Punjab Kings head coach Ricky Ponting walked onto the field to check on him personally. Fellow South African players David Miller and Tristan Stubbs also looked visibly distressed by the incident.
After initial treatment, Ngidi was fitted with a neck brace before being carefully placed on a stretcher. An ambulance was then brought directly onto the field to transport him safely.
To ensure urgent medical attention, Delhi Police arranged a green corridor so Ngidi could be taken to Max Hospital in Rajendra Nagar without delay. Reports stated that the journey to the hospital was completed in just 11 minutes.
Fortunately, after medical evaluation, the pacer was declared stable and discharged only a few hours later, bringing major relief to the Delhi Capitals camp. The franchise also shared a positive update, confirming that the player was stable and recovering well.

“Thank you for the messages, all good,” he wrote.
With Delhi Capitals continuing their IPL 2026 campaign, the team will now hope their experienced pacer can make a full recovery and return to action soon.
