Manav Suthar signs county deal shortly after impressive Test debut for India
Shortly after his stellar performance on his Test debut during the India versus Afghanistan one-off encounter, all-rounder Manav Suthar has signed a county deal with English county club Warwickshire for a short term.
Suthar has made himself available for the club for the next two rounds of the ongoing County Championship Division One. The youngster will make his presence felt for the club's upcoming game against Yorkshire, set to be played from June 12 to 15. He will then play another fixture against Somerset, which is set to be played in Taunton.
“I’m incredibly excited to be joining Warwickshire for the next two County Championship games. The team have started the season very well, so I’m hoping that I can play a part in helping them in their push for the title," Suthar said upon his maiden county signing in a club statement.
Suthar impressed the cricketing fraternity with an amazing debut on the international arena, taking a six-wicket haul in the first innings of the Test while also picking up one in the second. A seven-wicket match haul was complimented by a handy contribution of 28 runs with the bat down the order, as he was also named the Player of the Match. This would be a huge confidence booster for him ahead of the county stint.
“We’re delighted to welcome Manav to the Bears at a really exciting time for the team. We’ve played some good red-ball cricket already this season, and Manav will bring a new aspect to our bowling attack. It shows how highly he’s rated in India after his selection to their Test team last week, so it’s going to be great to have him around the group,” the club's performance director, James Thomas, said.
It will be interesting to see how Suthar is able to fare in challenging conditions in the United Kingdom, especially with the ball, as the wickets there hardly have anything to offfer for spinners.
