The 16th match of The Women’s Hundred 2025 turned into a statement win for Oval Invincibles, who brushed aside Welsh Fire by 39 runs at The Oval on August 16. A clinical all-round performance—headlined by Alice Capsey’s fireworks and Marizanne Kapp’s composure—meant the home crowd witnessed a complete display of batting flair, disciplined bowling, and sharp fielding.

The Invincibles suffered an early blow when skipper Lauren Winfield-Hill departed first ball, but Meg Lanning quickly steadied nerves with a brisk 23 off 14 deliveries. The real momentum, however, came from Capsey. The 20-year-old lit up the ground with a fearless 55 off 34, cracking seven fours and a six to lift the run rate and put Welsh Fire under the pump.

Her departure at 92 brought a brief stumble, but Kapp’s calm presence took over. The South African all-rounder crafted a measured 47* off 32 balls, striking six crisp boundaries to anchor the finish. With handy support from the lower order, she ensured Invincibles posted 150/5—a total that always felt like a winning score on a surface offering something for both seamers and spinners. Hayley Matthews bowled with discipline for her 2/18, but the damage was already done.

Chasing 151, Welsh Fire had hope in Sophia Dunkley’s fluent half-century. Her 56 off 41, laced with eight boundaries, gave her side a fighting chance, especially through the powerplay. But regular wickets turned the chase into a stutter.

Kapp struck the first blows, removing skipper Tammy Beaumont cheaply and then castling Georgia Elwiss first ball. From there, Welsh Fire faltered. Capsey chipped in with two wickets, while spinners Amanda-Jade Wellington and Sophia Smale strangled the middle and lower order with a combined five wickets.

When Dunkley fell with the score still below 100, Fire’s resistance evaporated. They folded for 111 in 97 balls, falling well short by 39 runs.

Unsurprisingly, Kapp walked away with Player of the Match honors—her unbeaten 47 and figures of 2/24 perfectly summing up her all-round brilliance. Combined with Capsey’s fearless batting and crucial strikes, the pair embodied Invincibles’ dominance as they tightened their grip on the tournament.
