In a highly anticipated clash, the Mumbai Indians (MI) take on the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Match 33 of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday, April 23.
Both sides are struggling to find consistent form and currently find themselves in seventh and eighth spots in the points table. MI finally secured a win in their last game against the Gujarat Titans following a run of four consecutive defeats.
CSK, on the other hand, were on a two-game winning streak before falling to a loss against the Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Ruturaj Gaikwad’s side also suffered defeat against MI at the Wankhede Stadium last season.
MI and CSK made excellent use of the Impact Sub rule in their previous game. Hardik Pandya’s side called Ashwani Kumar from the bench to make his first appearance of the 2026 season. He went on to take four wickets against GT to help his side secure the win.
CSK, meanwhile, used Ayush Mhatre as their Impact Sub. He scored 30 off just 13 balls before picking up a hamstring injury.
Ashwani Kumar: Ashwani Kumar played only his first game of the 2026 IPL season last time against the Gujarat Titans and went on to take four wickets at an economy of just six.
Raj Bawa: A seam-bowling all-rounder, Raj Bawa is yet to feature for MI this season but has been a regular in being named amongst the substitutes. He played three games for the Indians last season.
Mayank Markande: A spin-bowling option, Markande has played three games this season but has yet to pick up a wicket.
Mayank Rawat: Mayank Rawat made his IPL debut against PBKS at the Wankhede Stadium but did not score a single run. An all-rounder by trait, he offers right-arm spin option with an economy of 7.59 in T20 cricket.
Corbin Bosch: Corbin Bosch has made one appearance in the IPL this season. The South African all-rounder scored 11 runs and took one wicket against the Delhi Capitals in a losing cause.
Gurjapneet Singh: Gurjapneet Singh has added responsibility with the ball following the injury to Khaleel Ahmed. The 27-year-old has taken two wickets from three matches this season.
Karik Sharma: A middle-order batter, Kartik Sharma has played three matches this season and has scored just 25 runs. The game against RCB was the last time he featured for CSK this season.
Prashant Veer: An all-rounder, Prashant Veer has played just twice in the IPL, but did score 43 against RCB and showed signs of promise. His T20 economy rate is also just 6.45.
Matthew Short: Should CSK start with three overseas players in the playing XI, Matthew Short could be an option off the bench in case of a batting collapse during the early parts of an innings.
Akeal Hosein: Akeal Hosein has already made two substitute appearances for CSK this season, taking just one wicket along the way.
