Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) fast bowler Mohammed Shami was bestowed with a special accolade called the “Match IQ Award” following their game against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Ekana International Stadium on Sunday, April 27.
Despite losing the game against the Knight Riders, Shami made a positive impact on the proceedings. The right-arm fast bowler was the fielder who threw the ball towards the stumps, which eventually got Angkrish Raghuvanshi out, obstructing the field in the first innings.
Shami also had a say with the bat in the second innings. The 35-year-old scored a six on the final ball of the innings to take the game into the Super Over. The dramatic finish did not result in an LSG win, with the hosts losing the game after scoring just one run in the one-over face-off.
"Somebody who threw the ball at another player running home and got a run out and cool under pressure hit the last ball fo r 6 to get us into a into a super over," LSG coach Lance Klusener said whilst presenting the award.

Shami has also had a decent season with the ball. In the first eight matches, the right-arm pacer has taken seven wickets at an economy rate of just above eight. He continues to lead an exciting bowling unit comprising Prince Yadav, Mayank Yadav and Digvesh Rathi.
LSG’s defeat at the hands of KKR has resulted in them being rooted to the foot of the standings. Rishabh Pant’s side have accumulated just four points from eight matches in the 2026 Indian Premier League. They are also currently on a five-match losing run in the tournament and look a long way off from making a playoff push.

LSG have to wait a week for their next game. They travel to the Wankhede Stadium to take on the Mumbai Indians on Monday, May 4.
