The first edition of the Asia Cup was played in 1984. However, the inaugural T20 version of the continental competition was held in 2016. This was introduced to help the Asian teams get some useful preparation ahead of ICC events held in the T20 format.
The first two editions of the T20 Asia Cups were played in 2016 and 2022. This helped teams prepare for the 2016 and 2022 T20 World Cups, respectively. This year, the competition is being held in the 20-over format once again, as the upcoming T20 World Cup gets underway in February 2026, set to be held in the Indian subcontinent.
The first two T20 Asia Cups were won by India and Sri Lanka, respectively. CricTracker lists down the teams with the most defeats in the Asia Cups, held in the shortest format of the game.
India have lost the least number of matches in T20 Asia Cup history. They won the 2016 Asia Cup without suffering a defeat. However, in the 2022 edition of the tournament, the Men in Blue lost two games and couldn't retain their title.
In the ongoing Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates, the Suryakumar Yadav-led side has remained undefeated so far. They have registered victories against the hosts, the UAE, and arch-rivals Pakistan so far in the campaign. They are slated to play Oman in their last group-stage fixture, followed by the Super Four games against Pakistan and two other teams from the Group B, yet to be decided.
